This noble town of ancient origins dominates the Arlanza river from its strategic position at some crossroads. It was at the height of its splendour during the times of Felipe III thanks to the influence of Don Francisco Sandoval y Rojas, Duke of Lerma, the King’s favourite. It is one of the best preserved Historic Artistic Towns in Spain. It is an obligatory stop for the visitor to the province of Burgos.
